PANORA, Iowa -- The Kirkwood men's golf team ran away from the field on the final day of the Region XI Fall Preview at Lake Panorama National Golf Course on Monday, winning their fourth straight tournament. With the win, the Eagles ended their fall season having won four out of the last five tournaments with their only "loss" being a second place finish at the Klocke Classic, the season's opening tournament.
Entering Monday's final round, the Eagles held a 5-shot advantage over second place DMACC before ballooning the lead to 14 strokes en route to the Region XI Preview crown.
Four Eagles placed among the top five individual finishers highlighted by sophomore Niall Powell's one-over-par 145 (72, 73) which secured him individual medalist honors for the tournament. Freshman Ryan Morrison finished four shots behind Powell and claimed second place with a five-over-par 149 (74, 75) while fellow freshman Will Babcock finished in sole third place shooting a six-over-par 150 (77, 73). Sophomore JD Goodfellow finished in a tie for fourth place after firing a seven-over-par 151 (75, 76).
Other notable Eagles finishes were sophomore Max Thrune (+9, 153) who tied for eighth place, freshman Dawson Peters (+12, 156) tied for eleventh, sophomore Jake Sevcik (+14, 158) in 14th place, and freshman George Kalpakas (+16, 160) in 15th place.
