FOLEY, Ala. - The Kirkwood men's golf team displayed remarkable balance all week and placed fifth at the NJCAA Division II national tournament at the Glen Lakes Golf Course in Foley, Ala.
All five Eagles finished in a cluster, separated by only four shots of each other after 72 holes.
JD Goodfellow led Kirkwood in 17th place at 5-over-par 293. Niall Powell was 23rd at 7-over 295, Max Thrune finished 25th at 8-over 296, Ryan Morrison tied for 27th at 9-over 297 and Dawson Peters also tied for 27th at 9-over 297.
The Eagles posted their best round of the tournament Thursday with a collective team score of 1-under-par 287. Powell fired a 3-under 69 Thursday to lead the way and Peters shot a 1-under 71. Goodfellow, Powell and Thrune were named third team All-Americans.
Mississippi Gulf Coast won the 21-team tournament at 2-under for 72 holes. Kirkwood finished 21 strokes behind at 19-over for the tournament.
Leon D'Souza of South Mountain claimed the individual title at 8-under 280.
