#1 Eagles Soar Over Ellsworth
Cedar Rapids, IA-
Kirkwood 96
Ellsworth 51
Playing their first game in 12 days, top ranked Kirkwood looked like they did not miss a beat, as they defeated Ellsworth 96-51 Thursday night at Johnson Hall.
The Eagles busted open a close game early, as sophomores Jenna Twedt & Kaliyah Sain would score 11 points each in the opening quarter to help Kirkwood take a 33-12 lead after a quarter of play.
Ellsworth would use a 10-0 run to start the second quarter to cut the Eagles lead to 33-22, but that would be as close as they would get in, as Kirkwood led 54-34 at halftime.
Kirkwood (24-0 / 14-0) responded with a 14-0 over the first 4:45 of the third quarter to double up the Panthers and take a commanding 68-34 lead.
The Eagles' defense did what they normally do in the second half, as they held Ellsworth to just 17 second half points.
Twedt led the way with a game-high 22 points, while Sain finished with 20.
Sophomore Jariah Harris came off the bench to finish in double figures with 15 points and sophomore Lizzy Puot recorded her fourth double-double of the season, as she finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The Eagles have a quick turnaround, as they head west to Norfolk, NE to take on Northeast Saturday afternoon.
