Eagles Soar Past Comets in Big ICCAC Win
Cedar Rapids, IA- The #18 Kirkwood Eagles men's basketball team continued its midseason surge on Saturday afternoon, taking care of business inside Johnson Hall with a convincing 74–48 victory over ICCAC foe Western Iowa Tech. Entering the matchup at 5–4 in league play and riding a three-game win streak, Kirkwood delivered one of its most complete performances of the conference season.
The Eagles set the tone early, holding the Comets to just 25 first-half points while building a 29–25 advantage at the break. What followed was a dominant second half that showcased Kirkwood's balance, physicality, and depth. The Eagles exploded for 45 points after halftime, shooting over 50 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes and steadily pulling away from a Western Iowa Tech team that struggled to find consistent offense.
Richard Lindsey Jr. led the way with an efficient and aggressive scoring performance, pouring in a game-high 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting while also knocking down seven free throws. Lindsey's ability to attack the paint and finish through contact kept the Comets on their heels throughout the afternoon.
Kirkwood's frontcourt controlled the glass, as Manasse Kasongo and Cole Marsh anchored the interior. Kasongo recorded a strong all-around effort with eight points and 10 rebounds, while Marsh added nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds, consistently extending possessions and limiting Western Iowa Tech to just two second-chance points.
The Eagles also benefited from solid contributions across the lineup. Chris Coleman chipped in nine points and four assists, while the bench provided a spark with 27 points, underscoring Kirkwood's depth and energy. At the free-throw line, the Eagles were steady, converting 22 of 28 attempts, a key factor in maintaining momentum during their second-half run.
Defensively, Kirkwood held the Comets to 36.4 percent shooting for the game and just 23 points in the second half, turning strong defensive stands into points in the paint and controlling possessions on the offensive end.
With the win, the Eagles continue to build confidence and momentum as the ICCAC schedule intensifies.
