Kirkwood Sweeps Western Iowa Tech

The Kirkwood Eagles continued their undefeated march through ICCAC competition Wednesday night, sweeping the Western Iowa Tech Comets 3–0 (25–11, 25–19, 25–19) in Sioux City. With the victory, the Eagles improved to 5–0 in conference play.

Balanced Offense Powers the Sweep

Kirkwood's attack was firing on all cylinders, hitting a blistering .462 as a team. Freshman outside hitter Josie Bryan was nearly unstoppable, tallying 10 kills on just 16 swings for a .625 efficiency. Sophomore standout Kaci Johnson delivered a match-high 13 kills and added two service aces to finish with 16 total points.

Middle hitter Marissa Cahoy added 12 kills and three blocks, while Carly Wazac chipped in eight kills on a .467 hitting percentage. Setter Avery Knoop kept the offense humming, dishing out 19 assists, while Johnson also contributed 24 assists in Kirkwood's fluid 6-2 system.

Defensive Strength

Defensively, the Eagles were anchored by Natalee Hartman, who posted a team-high 16 digs, frustrating Western Iowa Tech's attackers all evening. Abbie Staats added nine digs, while the Eagles' front line combined for 14 block assists to stifle the Comets at the net.

The Eagles will now turn their attention to a high-profile weekend slate. Kirkwood travels to Champaign, Illinois, to face nationally ranked opponents at Parkland College in a series of top-10 matchups.
