#4 Kirkwood Goes 4-0 at Kirkwood Invitational

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The #4 Kirkwood Eagles kept their undefeated season alive this past weekend at the Kirkwood Invitational inside Johnson Hall, finishing 4-0 with wins over three nationally ranked opponents. Kirkwood defeated #6 Heartland (3-2), #10 Illinois Central (3-1), #5 Johnson County (3-0), and Lincoln Land (3-0) to move to 10-0 on the year.

Kirkwood opened the weekend with a five-set battle against Heartland. Kaci Johnson carried the load with 15 kills, 24 assists, and 12 digs. Sydney Brandmeyer added 13 kills and 24 digs, while Madalyn Boyer chipped in 7 kills and 5 blocks.

The Eagles followed with a 3-1 victory over Illinois Central. Carly Wazac led the way with 12 kills on .385 hitting, while Marissa Cahoy delivered 9 kills and 22 receptions. Josie Bryan posted 11 kills, and Chloe Baez added 8 kills and 4 blocks. Libero Natalee Hartman anchored the back row with 26 digs.

On Saturday, Kirkwood turned in one of its best showings, sweeping #5 Johnson County. Johnson tallied 9 kills, 15 assists, and 13 points. Yasmine Sell added 10 kills, while Brandmeyer posted 9 kills and 10 digs as the Eagles controlled the match from start to finish.

The Eagles closed the weekend with a 3-0 sweep of Lincoln Land. Wazac, Brandmeyer, and Bryan each tallied 9 kills, while Johnson dished out 22 assists. Hartman added 9 digs and 4 service aces in the dominant finale.

With the 4-0 weekend, Kirkwood remains perfect at 10-0 and has now knocked off five top-10 opponents this season.
