Eagles Top Lakers 3-0

Cedar Rapids, IA – October 2, 2025

The Kirkwood Eagles volleyball team continued their dominance in conference play Thursday night, rolling past the Iowa Lakes Lakers in straight sets (25-11, 25-10, 25-13). With the win, the Eagles improved to 7-0 in ICCAC play, showcasing a balanced attack and stifling defense in front of the home crowd at Johnson Hall.

Offensive Firepower

Kirkwood's offense was firing on all cylinders, hitting an impressive .341 as a team. Sophomore Carly Wazac led the way with 8 kills, while Sydney Brandmeyer and Yasmine Sell each added 7. Freshman Chloe Baez was nearly unstoppable at the net, tallying 6 kills on just 7 swings for a staggering .714 hitting percentage.

Josie Bryan made the most of her opportunities with 6 kills on 13 attempts (.462), and Kaci Johnson chipped in 3 kills while running the offense to perfection.

Setting the Tone

Setter Avery Knoop steered the attack with 22 assists, keeping the Lakers' defense off balance. Johnson also contributed heavily as a secondary setter, dishing out 10 assists of her own. Together, the duo orchestrated an offense that saw five different players notch multiple kills.

Defensive Stand

On the defensive side, Johnson led with 11 digs, while Bryan (9) and Brandmeyer (4) anchored the back row. At the net, Baez (5 block assists) and Wazac (3 block assists) stifled Iowa Lakes' hitters, helping hold the Lakers to just .000 hitting for the match.

Next Up

The Eagles will have a few days to regroup before their next ICCAC test. Kirkwood travels to Southeastern next Wednesday for another pivotal conference matchup, as they look to keep their unbeaten streak alive and tighten their grip atop the ICCAC standings.
