No. 4 Eagles Sweep Southwestern, Stay Perfect in ICCAC Play
The 4th-ranked Kirkwood Eagles volleyball team rolled into Creston, IA, on Wednesday night and left with yet another decisive conference victory. The Eagles swept Southwestern Community College in straight sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-7), moving to 6-0 in ICCAC play.
Balanced Attack Leads the Way
Kirkwood's offensive firepower was on full display as the team hit a collective .304 across three sets. Freshman standout Carly Wazac led the attack with 12 kills on just 21 swings (.381), while sophomore Sydney Brandmeyer added 9 kills and 3 blocks, finishing with 10.5 total points. Madalyn Boyer chipped in 7 kills and 3 block assists for 9.5 points of her own, and Josie Bryan provided 6 kills while digging up 12 balls in a strong two-way performance.
Setters and Defense Shine
Running the offense, Kaci Johnson directed the team with 22 assists, while Avery Knoop contributed 13 more. Together, the duo kept the Spartan defense guessing and spread the scoring load evenly. From the service line, Natalee Hartmanprovided a spark with 4 aces, while also collecting a team-high 17 digs to anchor the back row. Abbie Staats added 5 digs, helping limit Southwestern's attack.
Complete Team Performance
The Eagles' depth and balance made the difference throughout the match. They came out hot with a blistering .464 hitting percentage in the opening set, stumbled slightly in the second (.091), but bounced back to close the match in dominant fashion with a .387 clip in the third. In total, Kirkwood finished with 41 kills, 68 digs, and 15 block assists, overwhelming Southwestern at the net and in the backcourt.

The Eagles (now 6-0 in ICCAC play) return home this Saturday to host the Kirkwood Quad. They'll welcome a strong field featuring Iowa Central, Sauk Valley, and Prairie State.
