Eagles Clamp Down, Punch Ticket to National Semifinals
HICKORY, NC — The 6-seeded Kirkwood Eagles are officially dancing into the Final Four.
Behind a suffocating defensive performance and timely scoring, Kirkwood took down 3-seed Harcum College 59-43 on Thursday evening at the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament, punching their ticket to the national semifinals.
From the opening tip, the Eagles imposed their will defensively — and never let up.
Kirkwood held one of the nation's most explosive offenses to just 43 points on 24.1% shooting from the field and a staggering 18.5% from three-point range, completely disrupting Harcum's rhythm for four quarters.
Defense Sets the Tone Early
The Eagles wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to a 21-9 lead after the first quarter. Their pressure defense forced tough shots and limited clean looks, holding Harcum to just 13 total field goals in the game.
Kirkwood's defensive dominance showed across the stat sheet:
-
+18 rebounding advantage (50-32)
-
Nine steals and constant ball pressure
-
Just 12 points allowed in the paint
Moeschter Leads Balanced Attack
Offensively, the Eagles didn't need fireworks — just consistency and execution.
Sophomore Erianna Moeschter led the way with a game-high 16 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. She provided a steady scoring presence when Kirkwood needed it most.
Kennedy Blakely added 10 points and helped control the tempo, while Whitney Sullivan chipped in 9 points and 6 rebounds in an efficient outing.
The Eagles' depth also played a key role:
-
Madison Stowater: 6 points on a perfect 2-of-2 from three
-
Dasia Foster and Bra'Ja Torry: combined for 11 points and strong interior presence
-
Team effort on the glass, with multiple players contributing to the 50-rebound performance
Closing the Door
After Harcum showed signs of life in the third quarter, cutting slightly into the lead, Kirkwood slammed the door shut in the fourth.
The Eagles held Harcum to just 6 points in the final period, including 13.3% shooting, turning the game into a defensive clinic down the stretch.
Next Up
With the victory, Kirkwood advances to the national semifinals, where they will face 2-seed Illinois Central — a team they have split with during the regular season. A spot in the NJCAA Division II National Championship Game is on the line.
