Eagles Open Season with 3–1 Series Win Over Saints

Liberal, KS- The #18 Kirkwood Eagles Baseball Team opened the 2026 season on the road in Liberal, Kansas, squaring off with the Seward County Saints in a four-game series. After a tough opening loss, the Eagles responded in emphatic fashion—winning three straight games with offensive firepower and timely pitching to take the series.


Game 1

Seward County 14, Kirkwood 4

The season opener proved to be a challenging start for the Eagles as Seward County used a barrage of home runs to pull away early. Kirkwood showed flashes offensively, highlighted by Brady Blake, who launched a two-run homer, and Jax Theeler, who finished with two hits and an RBI. Despite scoring first, Seward's big innings ultimately swung the game out of reach.

 


Game 2

Kirkwood 16, Seward County 7

Kirkwood wasted no time bouncing back, erupting for 16 runs in a statement win. Will Nuss delivered the knockout blow with a grand slam as part of a five-RBI day, while Brady Blake stayed hot with three hits and three RBIs. Alex Altmann added extra-base pop, and Landon Jasper homered while driving in three. On the mound, Tate Proskovec earned the win out of the bullpen as the Eagles' offense never let Seward settle in.

 


Game 3

Kirkwood 16, Seward County 5

The Eagles carried their momentum into Sunday with another offensive showcase. Wrigley Matthys ignited the lineup with a home run and two RBIs, while Blake Lundholm and Brady Blake each drove in two. Landon Frost and Tyne Weeden both homered as part of a 15-hit attack. On the mound, Reid Burkle was dominant in relief, striking out seven over three scoreless innings to secure the victory. 

 


Game 4

Kirkwood 14, Seward County 9

In the series finale, Kirkwood completed the turnaround by outlasting Seward in a back-and-forth contest. Landon Frost delivered the biggest swing of the weekend with a grand slam, finishing with four RBIs. Jax Theeler homered and drove in two, while Blake Lundholm added a pair of RBIs from the top of the order. Jordan Woodhouse earned the win in relief, stabilizing the game late as the Eagles pulled away to seal the series win. 


Next Up

The Eagles will look to build on their opening-weekend success when they travel to O'Fallon, Missouri, on February 20th to take on Southwestern Illinois College.
