Eagles Cruise Past Marshalltown in Run-Rule Victory at Lewis Field
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA- The #10 Kirkwood Eagles continued their offensive surge on Thursday afternoon, overpowering the Marshalltown Tigers in a dominant 17-4 run-rule victory at Lewis Field in Cedar Rapids.
Kirkwood wasted no time setting the tone, plating two runs in the first inning before erupting for nine runs in the second to seize complete control of the game. By the end of the third inning, the Eagles had built a commanding lead, showcasing the same explosive offense that has become their calling card.
The Eagles finished with 17 runs on 14 hits while drawing an impressive 14 walks, consistently applying pressure and capitalizing on scoring opportunities.
Leading the charge offensively was Cam Templeton, who delivered a standout performance with two hits and four RBIs, including a pair of doubles. Ty Andrews continued his strong stretch at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a home run, while Landon Frost matched him with two hits, three RBIs, and a long ball of his own.
Alex Altmann added to the power display with a home run and two RBIs, finishing with a multi-hit game and scoring three runs. Landon Jasper also went deep, contributing two hits and two RBIs, while Brady Blake chipped in with a pair of hits and scored twice.
Kirkwood's lineup showed tremendous discipline, with multiple players reaching base several times. Will Nuss scored three runs and drew three walks, while Wrigley Matthys set the table at the top of the lineup with three walks and an RBI.
On the mound, Jackson Niederwerder got the start and provided a solid opening, allowing just one run over three innings while striking out two. After a brief push from Marshalltown in the middle innings, Adrian Broadus came in and shut the door, earning the win with 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit while striking out four.
Despite Marshalltown plating four runs, Kirkwood's early offensive explosion proved insurmountable, as the Eagles closed out the game in seven innings.
