Eagles Go 2-1 in Boone, Secure No. 2 Seed Heading Into Region 11 Tournament

BOONE, IA- The #4 Kirkwood Eagles closed out the regular season by winning two of three games against the DMACC Bears in Boone, Iowa this past weekend, securing the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Region 11 Tournament at Merchants Park in Carroll. After dropping the opener 4-1 on Friday, the Eagles responded with back-to-back offensive performances in 12-7 and 13-7 victories to finish ICCAC play at 21-6.

In game one, Jax Theeler led the Eagles offensively with a 2-for-3 performance and drove in Kirkwood's lone run, while Ty Andrews added two hits behind the plate. Reece Wrage struck out three over 3.2 innings before Collin Homan came in and tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts.

Kirkwood answered immediately in game two with a 12-7 win behind an explosive offensive showing. Brady Blake paced the lineup by going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored, while Wrigley Matthys launched a home run and scored three times. Ty Andrews added two hits and two RBIs, Jax Theeler collected two more hits, and Adam Kayko finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Will Nuss also delivered a strong performance with a hit, RBI, and run scored, while Blake Lundholm reached base three times and scored twice. On the mound, Grant Miller earned the win with 3.2 innings of scoreless relief and three strikeouts after entering in the second inning.

The Eagles carried that momentum into Saturday's series finale, erupting for 13 runs to clinch the series victory and the No. 2 seed.

Ty Andrews had one of his best games of the season, going 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Will Nuss delivered massive power at the plate with two home runs and three RBIs, while Landon Frost added a homer of his own and drove in two runs.

Brady Blake added two hits and an RBI, Adam Kayko knocked in two runs, and Cam Templeton added a sacrifice fly RBI. Kirkwood's offense exploded for seven runs in the ninth inning to pull away late.

Jackson Niederwerder earned the win in relief to improve to 5-0 on the season, while Adrian Broadus and Rafe McConnell combined for important innings out of the bullpen to help Kirkwood close out the weekend.
