No. 5 Kirkwood Caps Off Dominant Florida Trip at 11-0

Winter Haven, FL- The #5 Kirkwood Eagles Baseball team closed out their time at the RussMatt Invitational with a 4-0 finish, completing an undefeated 11-0 trip in Florida. The Eagles continued to roll behind strong hitting and consistent pitching performances across all four games.


Game 1: Kirkwood 7, Macomb CC 3

In their first game of the final stretch, the Eagles used a big middle innings surge to take down Macomb Community College.

After a quiet start, Kirkwood broke things open with a four-run fourth inning and never looked back. Landon Frost powered the offense with a home run and two hits, while CJ Davis delivered in key moments with two hits and two RBIs.

Will Nuss added a pair of hits and an RBI, and Adam Kayko chipped in with an RBI knock of his own.

On the mound, Ayden Schrunk earned the win with four solid innings, allowing just two earned runs while striking out three. The bullpen trio of Tate Proskovec and Collin Homan slammed the door, combining for three shutout innings to secure the win.


Game 2: Kirkwood 18, Prairie State 7

The Eagles' offense erupted in game two, putting up 18 runs in a dominant showing against Prairie State College.

Kirkwood's patience at the plate was on full display, drawing 15 walks while still collecting timely hits. Will Nussdelivered a monster performance, driving in six runs, while Cam Templeton tallied three hits and two runs scored.

Blake Lundholm reached base consistently and scored three runs, and Jax Theeler added three runs and an RBI. Landon Jasper contributed with two RBIs, while CJ Davis added a two-RBI hit late.

On the mound, Drew Zemaitis set the tone with five shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out four to earn the win.


Game 3: Kirkwood 14, UConn Avery Point 2

Kirkwood continued its offensive dominance in game three, cruising to a 14-2 win behind a 16-hit performance.

Blake Lundholm led the charge with four hits and three runs scored, while Landon Frost stayed hot with three hits and four RBIs, including a home run.

Alex Altmann was electric at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a home run, and Cam Templeton added a two-RBI effort.

On the mound, Jackson Niederwerder picked up the win, tossing four strong innings and allowing just one unearned run. The bullpen continued to impress as Tate Proskovec and Rowan Donels combined to close out the game.


Game 4: Kirkwood 13, UConn Avery Point 9

The Eagles closed out their Florida trip with another offensive showcase, holding off a late push from UConn Avery Point to complete the undefeated run.

A massive 10-run second inning set the tone early. Blake Lundholm drove in three runs, while Landon Jasper launched a home run and finished with three RBIs.

Alex Altmann added two RBIs, and Nathan Motl contributed with a two-hit, multi-RBI performance.

On the mound, Adrian Broadus earned the win, and despite some late pressure, Grant Miller came in to secure the save and finish off the sweep.


Next Up

The Eagles now start ICCAC play this weekend with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday against the NIACC Trojans.
