#4 Eagles Walk It Off, Then Run Away with Sweep of No. 22 Iowa Central
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA- The #4 Kirkwood Eagles Softball team delivered a statement performance on Tuesday at the Kirkwood Softball Field, sweeping a doubleheader against the #22 Iowa Central Tritons. The Eagles claimed a thrilling 3-2 walk-off victory in game one before erupting offensively in a 13-4 run-rule win in game two.
Game 1: Reiners Delivers Walk-Off in Pitcher's Duel
In a tightly contested battle, the Eagles showed resilience and timely hitting, walking off Iowa Central 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning.
After trailing late, Kirkwood tied the game with a two-run fifth inning, highlighted by a clutch two-run home run from Ella Trenkamp, who accounted for two of the team's three RBIs.
With the game on the line in the seventh, Mischa Reiners stepped up and delivered the biggest hit of the day, driving in the winning run on a walk-off single to seal the victory. Reiners finished the game with two hits and the game-winning RBI, while also swiping a base.
Reese Stockman and Camryn Johnson each added a hit to support the offense, while Taylor Dieterich scored a key run.
Inside the circle, Libby Trewin was outstanding, improving to 16-2 on the season. She tossed a complete game, allowing just 2 runs (0 earned) on 6 hits while striking out 5, keeping the Tritons off balance throughout the afternoon.
Game 2: Eagles Explode for 13 Runs in Run-Rule Victory
Kirkwood carried the momentum into game two and wasted no time putting the game out of reach, scoring five runs in the first inning and six more in the fourth en route to a 13-4 win in five innings.
The Eagles' offense was relentless, piling up 10 hits and drawing 5 walks in the dominant performance.
Kinsley Theobald led the charge with a monster game, going 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs, including two home runs to power the Eagles' offense.
Ella Trenkamp stayed hot at the plate, finishing with 3 RBIs, while Reese Stockman added a home run and drove in a run as part of a multi-hit performance.
Shannon Finn set the tone at the top of the lineup, scoring two runs, while Taylor Dieterich crossed the plate twice and reached base multiple times. Leah Mangelsen also contributed an RBI to round out a complete offensive showing.
In the circle, Carley Cavanagh improved to 9-0 on the season, going all five innings while allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits and striking out 4.
