Top-Ranked Eagles Dominate #8 DMACC, Take Sole Possession of ICCAC Lead
BOONE, IA- The #1 Kirkwood Eagles Softball team made a loud statement on Wednesday in Boone, Iowa, sweeping the #8 DMACC Bears in dominant fashion with run-rule victories of 12-2 (5 innings) and 9-1 (6 innings). With the sweep, the Eagles now sit alone atop the ICCAC standings.
From the first pitch of game one, Kirkwood's offense was firing on all cylinders.
The Eagles put up 12 runs on 9 hits in the opener, breaking things wide open with a four-run fourth inning followed by a five-run fifth to end the game early. Power was on full display as Kirkwood launched four home runs, including blasts from Mischa Reiners, Breckin De La Rosa, Ella Trenkamp, and Camryn Johnson.
Reiners led the way with three RBIs, while De La Rosa also drove in three runs. Kinsley Theobald added a two-hit performance with two RBIs, and Trenkamp contributed two hits and two runs scored. The Eagles showed balance throughout the lineup, with multiple players contributing to the offensive surge.
In the circle, Libby Trewin delivered another strong outing, going all five innings while allowing just two runs on four hits to earn the win. She worked around four walks and kept the Bears from mounting any sustained threat.
Game two saw more of the same dominance—this time sparked by a standout performance from Shannon Finn.
Finn was electric at the top of the lineup, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored, three RBIs, and a home run to pace the Eagles' offense. Mischa Reiners and Breckin De La Rosa each added two RBIs, while Alley Gorsh and Taylor Dieterich also drove in runs as Kirkwood totaled nine runs on eight hits.
The Eagles jumped out early with five runs over the first two innings and never looked back, adding insurance runs late to secure the run-rule victory.
In the circle, Carley Cavanagh was in complete control, tossing all six innings while allowing just one run on six hits. She didn't issue a walk and kept DMACC off balance throughout, efficiently closing out the sweep.
Across the two games, Kirkwood outscored DMACC 21-3, combining explosive offense with dominant pitching—an all-around performance that reflects why the Eagles sit atop the national rankings.
