Eagles Sweep Hawkeye in Doubleheader Behind Strong Circle Performances and Timely Offense

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA- The #1 Kirkwood Eagles Softball team continued their impressive run on Thursday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against Hawkeye Community College at home in Cedar Rapids with victories of 2-0 and 7-2.

Game one was a tightly contested pitcher's duel, but the Eagles found just enough offense behind a stellar performance from Shannon Finn. Finn accounted for both of Kirkwood's runs, launching a home run and finishing with two RBIs to provide all the support needed in the 2-0 win.

In the circle, Libby Trewin was nothing short of dominant, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just two hits and striking out eight. She faced only 22 batters and did not issue a walk, keeping Hawkeye off balance from start to finish and preserving the Eagles' slim lead.

Kirkwood carried that momentum into game two, where the offense came alive. After Hawkeye jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, the Eagles responded with resilience, plating two runs in the second before breaking the game open with a five-run fifth inning.

Breckin De La Rosa delivered the biggest blow of the game, crushing two home runs and driving in five RBIs to lead the offensive explosion. Camryn Johnson added a strong performance as well, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a triple, while contributing to the Eagles' aggressive approach on the basepaths.

Kirkwood showed speed and pressure throughout the lineup, with multiple stolen bases from Shannon Finn, Macie Fisher, and Addison Ohda, helping to keep Hawkeye's defense on its heels.

In the circle for game two, Carley Cavanagh remained unbeaten on the season, earning the win after striking out nine and allowing just two runs—only one of which was earned—over 6.1 innings. Ada Wood came in to close out the game, securing the final two outs to complete the sweep.

Next Up: The Eagles will next take on Iowa Lakes in a doubleheader this Sunday starting at 1pm.
