Eagles Open Home Slate with 3-1 Weekend
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA — The #4 Kirkwood Eagles Softball team opened their home schedule with a strong 3-1 weekend at the Kirkwood Softball Field, splitting a doubleheader with #9 DMACC on Saturday before sweeping Ellsworth on Sunday with two run-rule victories.
Game 1 vs. #9 DMACC (W, 8-3)
Kirkwood opened the weekend with an 8-3 win, scoring 7 runs across the third and fourth innings to take control. Mischa Reiners led the way, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and 6 RBIs, accounting for the majority of the Eagles' offense. Addison Ohda added two hits and an RBI, while Shannon Finn scored three runs. In the circle, Libby Trewin went the distance, allowing just 3 runs (0 earned) with 6 strikeouts to earn the win.
Game 2 vs. #9 DMACC (L, 10-9)
The Eagles dropped a high-scoring second game despite jumping out to a 5-2 lead after the first inning. Kirkwood totaled 8 hits and 9 runs, with Kinsley Theobald driving in 3 RBIs and Breckin De La Rosa adding 2 RBIs.
Reese Stockman went 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored, while Taylor Dieterich homered and drove in 2. DMACC answered with 14 hits, pulling away late to secure the 10-9 win.
Game 3 vs. Ellsworth (W, 14-0, 5 innings)
Kirkwood's offense exploded in Sunday's opener, scoring 14 runs on 7 hits in a five-inning run-rule victory. Addison Ohda delivered a huge performance with 5 RBIs, while Savannah Caves added 3 RBIs and Ella Trenkamp chipped in 2.
Carley Cavanagh was dominant in the circle, tossing a 5-inning shutout, allowing just 4 hits and striking out 5.
Game 4 vs. Ellsworth (W, 12-2, 5 innings)
The Eagles followed with another run-rule win, scoring 12 runs on 13 hits. Reese Stockman powered the offense with 4 RBIs, while Mischa Reiners added 3 RBIs and Alley Gorsh drove in 2.
Ella Trenkamp recorded 2 hits and 2 runs, and Camryn Johnson added an RBI. Ada Wood picked up the win, allowing just 2 runs (0 earned) over 5 innings.
