#4 Eagles Stay Red-Hot, Extend Win Streak to 19 with Perfect Weekend in Kansas

Overland Park, KS- The #4 Kirkwood Eagles softball team continued to assert themselves as one of the top teams in the country this past weekend, traveling to Overland Park, KS and leaving with a dominant 4-0 showing. Taking on two ranked opponents in the #11 Johnson County Cavaliers and #25 Kansas City Kansas CC, the Eagles extended their win streak to an impressive 19 games with a combination of clutch hitting, explosive offense, and lockdown pitching.


Game 1: #4 Kirkwood 2, #11 Johnson County 1

In a tightly contested opener, the Eagles leaned on timely hitting and a dominant performance in the circle to edge out Johnson County.

Kirkwood scratched across two crucial runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-RBI effort from Mischa Reiners. Addison Ohda and Breckin De La Rosa each contributed doubles as part of a balanced offensive attack.

Inside the circle, Libby Trewin was outstanding, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run and striking out nine. She kept the Cavaliers off balance all afternoon, shutting the door in the final inning to secure the win.


Game 2: #4 Kirkwood 18, #11 Johnson County 12

The Eagles' offense erupted in game two, turning the doubleheader into a statement sweep over a top-15 opponent.

Kirkwood pounded out 19 hits and scored in bunches, highlighted by Alley Gorsh's massive performance (4-for-5, 5 RBI) and Kinsley Theobald's 4-RBI day that included a home run. Breckin De La Rosa added three hits and three RBI, while Shannon Finn set the tone at the top of the lineup with four hits and three runs scored.

After an early deficit, the Eagles flipped the game with a seven-run third inning and never looked back. Carley Cavanagh earned the win in relief, while Trewin came in to close things out and secure the sweep.


Game 3: #4 Kirkwood 8, #25 Kansas City Kansas 0

Kirkwood carried its momentum into day two with a dominant shutout performance.

The Eagles jumped out early with four runs in the first inning and never slowed down. Addison Ohda led the offensive charge with a three-run home run, while De La Rosa and Theobald each drove in runs as part of a 10-hit effort.

Trewin was once again dominant in the circle, throwing six shutout innings and allowing just two hits while striking out four. The defense backed her up with a clean performance to secure the run-rule victory.


Game 4: #4 Kirkwood 5, #25 Kansas City Kansas 0

The Eagles closed out the weekend with another complete performance, earning their second shutout of the day.

Kinsley Theobald continued her standout weekend with three hits, while Mischa Reiners reached base multiple times and drove in a run. Breckin De La Rosa added a two-run home run, and Alley Gorsh chipped in with two RBI to round out the scoring.

In the circle, Taylor Dieterich delivered five scoreless innings before handing things over to Cavanagh, who finished off the shutout. The Eagles' pitching staff combined to limit Kansas City Kansas to just eight hits without allowing a run.


Next Up

The Eagles now shift their focus to ICCAC play, where they will open conference action with a doubleheader against Northeast Iowa CC on Thursday starting at 2:00 PM. The games will be played in West Liberty at West Liberty High School due to weather conditions.
