Eagles Roll Through Nebraska with Dominant Four-Game Sweep
NORKFOLK/COLUMBUS, NE- The #1 Kirkwood Eagles Softball team continued to prove why they sit atop the national rankings this past weekend, delivering a dominant 4-0 performance across two doubleheaders in Nebraska. Taking on the Northeast Hawks in Norfolk and the Central CC Raiders in Columbus, the Eagles showcased explosive offense, dominant pitching, and depth throughout the lineup.
Kirkwood opened the weekend with a statement win against Northeast, blanking the Hawks 9-0 behind a complete team performance. The Eagles piled up 16 hits, led by Shannon Finn's perfect 4-for-4 outing that included a home run and three runs scored. Mischa Reiners added a triple and two hits, while Alley Gorsh and Breckin De La Rosa each contributed multi-hit efforts with key RBIs. In the circle, Libby Trewin was dominant, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five.
Game two saw more offensive firepower as the Eagles rolled to a 10-2 victory. Kirkwood plated six runs in the second inning to take control early and never looked back. Gorsh led the charge with a 3-for-3 performance, while Reiners and Kinsley Theobald each drove in two runs. Sophie Link and Reese Stockman added RBIs as well, showcasing the lineup's depth. Ada Wood earned the win in the circle, allowing just two runs over five innings.
The Eagles carried that momentum into Sunday's matchup with Central CC, erupting for a 17-0 run-rule victory in game one. Kirkwood tallied 15 hits and 16 RBIs in a complete offensive showcase. Savannah Caves highlighted the game with a home run and three RBIs, while Reiners, Theobald, and Gorsh each drove in multiple runs. Leah Mangelsen and Jessa DeMoss added clutch extra-base hits, helping fuel a five-inning rout. In the circle, Carley Cavanagh and DeMoss combined for a no-hit shutout, striking out four.
In the weekend finale, Kirkwood completed the sweep with a 12-4 victory. Shannon Finn powered the offense with a home run and three RBIs, while Breckin De La Rosa and Reese Stockman each added two RBIs. Leah Mangelsen also went deep, continuing her strong weekend at the plate. The Eagles once again displayed their aggressiveness on the bases, racking up multiple stolen bases throughout the lineup. Ada Wood earned the win, supported by relief appearances from DeMoss and Taylor Dieterich.
