Eagles Dominate Weekend Slate with Four-Game Sweep
The #4 Kirkwood Eagles Softball team continued their strong start to ICCAC play this weekend, going a perfect 4-0 across a pair of doubleheaders against NIACC and Iowa Lakes. The Eagles were lights out in Mason City, not allowing a single run, before erupting offensively in Estherville to outscore Iowa Lakes 19-5 and complete the weekend sweep.
Game 1: Kirkwood 4, NIACC 0 (7 innings)
Kirkwood opened the weekend with a strong all-around performance, highlighted by a shutout in the circle.
Libby Trewin was dominant, tossing a complete game while allowing just four hits and striking out eight to secure the win.
Offensively, the Eagles tallied eight hits, led by Alley Gorsh (2-for-4, RBI) and Reese Stockman (2-for-4, run scored). Mischa Reiners added a double and an RBI, while Breckin De La Rosa and Taylor Dieterich each drove in runs to pace the lineup.
Kirkwood broke the game open late, plating three runs across the final three innings to seal the shutout victory.
Game 2: Kirkwood 7, NIACC 0 (7 innings)
The Eagles followed up with another shutout performance, completing the sweep of NIACC behind strong pitching and aggressive baserunning.
Carley Cavanagh delivered in the circle, allowing just two hits over seven innings while striking out three.
At the plate, Shannon Finn sparked the offense, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Mischa Reiners continued her strong day with two hits and 2 RBIs, while Kinsley Theobald reached base four times and added an RBI.
Kirkwood's speed was on full display, swiping multiple bases and constantly putting pressure on the NIACC defense in a 7-0 win.
Game 3: Kirkwood 7, Iowa Lakes 2 (7 innings)
The Eagles carried their momentum into Sunday, erupting for 13 hits in the opener against Iowa Lakes.
Mischa Reiners led the charge, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Reese Stockman added a home run of her own, driving in three runs, while Breckin De La Rosa also went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
After falling behind early, Kirkwood responded with a five-run sixth inning to take control and pull away.
In the circle, Libby Trewin picked up her second win of the weekend, allowing just two runs (none earned) while striking out eight in a complete game effort.
Game 4: Kirkwood 12, Iowa Lakes 3 (6 innings)
Kirkwood capped off the weekend with their most explosive performance, putting up 12 runs on 12 hits in a run-rule victory.
Kinsley Theobald was outstanding, going 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Breckin De La Rosa drove in three runs, while Camryn Johnson added a home run and 2 RBIs.
The Eagles used a balanced offensive attack, with multiple players recording multi-hit games and contributing to a relentless scoring effort that included big innings in the fourth, fifth, and sixth.
Carley Cavanagh earned the win, allowing just one earned run over five innings, while Ada Wood closed out the game in relief.

The Eagles will take on Iowa Central this Tuesday at home in Cedar Rapids in a doubleheader beginning at 2 pm. The game has been moved to Tuesday instead of Wednesday due to incoming inclement weather.
