Eagles Extend Dominance, Capture ICCAC Crown with Four-Game Sweep

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA- The #1 Kirkwood Eagles Softball team continued its historic run this past weekend, closing out the ICCAC regular season in commanding fashion with a four-game sweep—taking two from Ellsworth on Saturday in Iowa Falls and two more from Iowa Central on Sunday in Fort Dodge. With the wins, the Eagles extended their remarkable win streak to 32 games, secured the ICCAC regular season title, and locked in the #1 seed in the Region 11-A Tournament.

Kirkwood wasted no time asserting its dominance in game one against Ellsworth, rolling to a 14-1 victory behind a balanced offensive attack. The Eagles tallied 11 hits and were paced by Taylor Dieterich, who drove in an eye-popping five RBIs, while Breckin De La Rosa added a home run and three RBIs. Reese Stockman contributed multiple extra-base hits, and Addison Ohda went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. In the circle, Ada Wood was sharp, allowing just one run over five innings to secure the win.

The second game of the doubleheader proved to be just as explosive offensively, as the Eagles erupted for 16 runs in a 16-6 victory. Despite falling behind early, Kirkwood responded with relentless pressure, drawing 11 walks and capitalizing on nearly every scoring opportunity. Ella Trenkamp delivered a huge performance with three RBIs, while Addison OhdaAlley Gorsh, and Camryn Johnson all contributed key runs driven in. In relief, Taylor Dieterich settled things down in the circle, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings to earn the win.

On Sunday, the Eagles carried that momentum into Fort Dodge, beginning with an 8-0 shutout of Iowa Central. Libby Trewin was dominant in the circle, scattering four hits over five innings while keeping the Tritons off the scoreboard. Offensively, Camryn Johnson powered the attack with a home run and four RBIs, while Breckin De La Rosa stayed hot with a three-hit performance.

The series finale capped off the weekend in emphatic fashion, as Kirkwood outslugged Iowa Central 14-8 in a high-scoring battle. After a tight start, the Eagles broke the game open with a barrage of extra-base hits and home runs. Kinsley Theobald led the charge with an incredible performance, launching three home runs and driving in six RBIs, while Shannon FinnElla Trenkamp, and Savannah Caves each added home runs of their own. Carley Cavanagh earned the win in the circle, improving to an unbeaten record, with help from a strong bullpen effort to close things out.

The Eagles will host #8 Ellsworth in the opening round of the Region 11-A Tournament on Friday, May 1st at 2 PM.
